Another goal of API specifications is to standardize data exchange—to ensure seamless communication—between diverse systems, created with different technologies, running on different OSs, or operating across network boundaries.

Security

API security is a key component of modern web application security since APIs can enable access to sensitive data and business functions. Data breaches—caused by broken, exposed, or hacked APIs—can release sensitive medical, financial, or personal data to the public. However, taking a REST API security approach or a SOAP API security approach will depend on what kind of data is being transferred through the API.

Proof-of-Technology

After ideation stages and feedback, PoT helps determine whether the product is viable—if the technology can realistically support the project goals—by defining clear input and output flows.
